Flamingo Productions LLC, was founded by Shaun McCanna and Lee Ann Nelson.
Flamingo’s emphasis is on documenting international human rights, democracy, and
cultural education issues, and we have worked extensively in Afghanistan and
Latin America. A documentary short titled Failure of Expectation, about the plight of Afghan poppy farmers, recently aired on the PBS program Foreign Exchange with Daljit Dhaliwal. The project was aided by the Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting and can be viewed at http://www.pulitzercenter.org/openitem.cfm?id=912 Upcoming projects will take us back to Afghanistan to examine the tenuous nature of independent media, and to Indonesia to document indigenous languages on the verge of extinction. Drugs and Death at Bagram was one of the projects selected for the Sundance Institute’s Independent Producers Conference in 2005. Our first film, A Hazy Transparency, about presidential elections in Peru, aired on PBS stations WLRN, KCET, and was exhibited on Air Force One as in-flight educational entertainment for the White House Press Corps. It was one of only eight documentaries selected for screening at the International Anti-Corruption Film Festival sponsored by Transparency International and traveled with the festival throughout Korea and Indonesia. |
